Watch: Morocco becomes first team eliminated from 2018 World Cup

The treachery of the World Cup has claimed its first victim, and that team is Morocco.

Which might be a little unfair. Morocco has zero points through two matches, after a brutal own goal against Iran and a thoroughly game but ultimately fruitless effort against reigning European champion Portugal.

The Moroccans might be ultimately the best team in World Cup history to not earn a single point — they play Spain next, and that will be the opposite of a cakewalk — but they should not be ashamed of the account they gave of themselves at this tournament.
