Mauricio Dubon grew up in the Sacramento area watching videos of Brandon Crawford.

On Thursday, the rookie second baseman got to meet the Giants shortstop at Oracle Park ahead of his team debut.

"Are you nervous?" Crawford asked as they stood on the field during batting practice.

"Nah, not really, no. Excited," Dubon said.

Later, Dubon and Crawford were out at second base working on their exchanges, and Crawford even gave the 25-year-old Honduras native some tips on how to turn a double play.

The Giants had Dubon mic'd up and had cameras following him around, so they got an up-close look at the pregame work.

Dubon went on to make a nice defensive play early in Thursday's game to rob Padres slugger Wil Myers of a hit, and collected his first major league hit with a single down the right field line in the fifth inning.

The Giants believe they have their second baseman of the future, and if he sticks close to Crawford, Dubon will have a long, successful career.
