After handling business against Morehead State with a 68-10 win to begin its season, James Madison football has shifted its sights to conference opponent Maine for Week 2.

The Dukes haven't faced Maine since 2017, when JMU cruised to a 28-10 victory. The Black Bears are coming off a Week 1 loss to Delaware, giving up over 400 yards of offense in a 34-24 defeat at the hands of the Blue Hens.

MAINE vs. JAMES MADISON WHAT TO WATCH

-Maine is looking to put together its first winning season since 2018, when the Black Bears made it all the way to the FCS Semifinals before falling to Eastern Washington in a one-sided affair. It was after that season when offensive coordinator Nick Charlton was promoted to head coach. The Black Bears have gone 8-9 since putting Charlton on the hot seat as the season gets underway. Look for him to be an aggressive play-caller against the heavily favored Dukes.

-JMU enters this weekend's contest on a 14-game winning streak in conference games, last losing to a Colonial Athletic Conference opponent in 2018. Maine is far from the toughest test the Dukes will face this season, having finished last year allowing over 30 points per game. Considering JMU was the only CAA to average more than 30 on the offensive side, the offense should come out swinging in this game.

MAINE VS. JAMES MADISON PLAYERS TO WATCH

Maine: R-Sr. WR Andre Miller (4 catches, 49 rec. yards, 0 TDs in 2021)

Miller was named to the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl Watchlist after leading the CAA with six touchdowns in the spring season earlier this year. He didn't play a big role in Maine's season opener against Delaware but should be more of a factor on a weekly basis. No one in the conference caught more passes per game than Miller's 5.25 last season.

James Madison: R-Sr. QB Cole Johnson (298 pass yards, 5 TDs, 0 INTs in 2021)

After JMU opted not to bring in another quarterback to compete with Johnson in camp, the signal-caller rewarded his coaches' confidence with a five-touchdown performance against Morehead State. The competition is going to get more stiff as the year goes on, but Johnson has the potential to make JMU's run-heavy offense a true nightmare for opposing defenses if he can be consistent in the passing game.
