WATCH: Jaylen Brown tells how Bill Russell fought racism By educating, inspiring others

Though the 2020-21 NBA season may not have ended the way All-Star forward Jaylen Brown might have hoped it would, he didn’t just make an impact on the basketball court since it started in December 2020.

He’s been hard at work helping to fight racial inequity in a variety of ways, drawing on the example of one of the greatest to ever play the game as well as one of the most ardent supporters of racial justice — Celtic champion center and franchise icon Bill Russell. The Cal-Berkeley product breaks down how Russell blazed the path for his own interest in education reform, and how the struggle is just as imminent today as it was then in a new short for The Interrupted.

Brown created the video embedded below to highlight Russell’s achievements and how they have inspired him to take a similar path — it’s worth the watch whether you know Russell’s famed support of civil rights in 1960s or not.
