WATCH: Highlights from five-star IOL Devon Campbell’s season debut

Texas’ offensive line class needs to respond in a big way after Herb Hand’s performance during the 2021 class. Lucky for the Longhorns, Kyle Flood has some of the best prospects in the country in his own backyard. In fact, one is already wearing burnt orange in Devon Campbell.

The five-star offensive lineman was ready to go for Arlington Bowie’s season opener against Lewisville Friday night. The result was not one Campbell was hoping for, but the Texas target still dominated at the line of scrimmage.

For Bowie, Campbell plays right tackle. Once he gets to college, he is expected to transition to one of the guard positions. With how tireless of a blocker the five-star is, he could play anywhere across the offensive line and find success.

Lewisville’s defensive ends were ending up on the ground constantly when going up against Campbell. Even after getting a good initial push, the play was not over until the whistle was blown.

Even the slightest touch from Campbell was sending pass rushers to the side and away from the action. Whenever Bowie decided to run the ball to the right, there was a hole available more times than not.

Campbell was able to show his freak athleticism early in the first quarter.

Lewisville was on their own one-yard line when Bowie decided to send Campbell in at defensive tackle. Of the three snaps, he ended up in the backfield all three times, preventing a touchdown twice.

Watch Campbell’s swim move on the center and the ability to make a tackle in the backfield.

I’m sure if Campbell wanted to make a full-time switch to defensive tackle, he would be widely successful. But the talent at offensive guard/tackle is too good for Flood to pass up.

Without considering myself a scout or evaluator of talent, Campbell passed the eye test with flying colors on Friday. Texas must get a commitment from the Arlington Bowie star. Seeing him line up anywhere else in the SEC will not be fun for Longhorn defensive tackles.
