D.C. UNITED vs. COLUMBUS CREW WHAT TO WATCH

He won't be the manager on Wednesday night, but D.C. United reportedly closed in on Wayne Rooney as its next boss, replacing Hernan Losada, who was fired back in April. Rooney spent 15 months with D.C. United as a player in 2018-19, though he was orginally inked to a three-and-a-half-year contract.

He went on to join English Championship club Derby County as a player-coach after leaving the nation's capital. After a slow start to the season under Losada, interim manager Chad Ashton wasn't able lift the club up the standings either. Now Rooney will be tasked with getting D.C. back on track whenever he officially takes over.
