When the biggest clubs in England actually try to win FA Cup games, they can often be rendered dull affairs.

So with that in mind, at least Chelsea and Manchester City gave us some flair in the form of awesome free kicks on Sunday.

After a first-half brace from Michy Batshuayi had the Blues comfortably ahead at Stamford Bridge, Marcos Alonso curled home this magnificent effort from a few yards beyond the box:

Alonso, who usually plays fullback for Chelsea, has shown a knack for scoring goals before. This one, generating so much power, movement and placement in a mere three steps, is another entry in his catalog.

Not to be outdone, later in the day Kevin de Bruyne put Manchester City ahead with this calculated brilliance:

City wound up beating Cardiff City 2-0, though not without losing star winger Leroy Sane for an extended period of time due to an ugly tackle. After the match, manager Pep Guardiola expressed his anger with Cardiff’s tactics, and indeed the second-division side seemed over the top in its aggressiveness.

Chelsea joins the Premier League leaders in the fifth round of the competition with its 3-0 win over Newcastle. Hopefully they’ve both got more great goals in store.
