WATCH: Carmelo Anthony elbows Jae Crowder in the face, earns technical foul originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

There was a lot to be frustrated about during Portland's 132-100 loss to Phoenix Monday evening.

That frustration may have boiled over into Carmelo Anthony getting a technical foul late in the third quarter.

The ten-time All-Star was being defended by Jae Crowder, who fouled Melo shortly before being caught with an elbow to the face.

As seen in the replay, Crowder reached for the ball but connected with the face of the future Hall-of-Famer. An elbow connected with Crowder's face shortly after, causing Melo to receive a technical foul.

It's Melo's fourth technical of the season which is tied for tenth in the NBA. It takes 16 technicals on the season to be suspended for a regular-season game.

Blazers fans know that Carmelo Anthony's elbow is nearly as deadly as his elbow jumper. He connected with Jusuf Nurkic's jaw in 2017 and got ejected from the contest at Moda Center for the action.

"We deemed that the contact was excessive," head referee Rodney Mott said after the game. "And that it was not a natural basketball move where he seeks out Nurkic, hits him in the face with an elbow and goes back to the basket. So because it's unnatural and it's deemed excessive, therefore it is a flagrant foul penalty two."

However, this time Melo just got hit with a technical and the game moved on with him in it until CJ Elleby replaced him with 8:51 remaining.

Anthony finished with 10 points and three rebounds in the blowout loss.
