Bears fans are done with Matt Nagy. Although, that’s been the case for several weeks now.

But Chicago’s loss to the Ravens on Sunday, their fifth straight, seemed to encapsulate everything that’s wrong with the Nagy era and was the perfect game to showcase exactly why Nagy shouldn’t survive the season.

The Bears couldn’t defeat Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley and lost a 16-13 heartbreaker to fall to 3-7 on the season. The offense continued to struggle, even despite a pair of touchdowns from Andy Dalton, who relieved an injured Justin Fields.

Despite the defense’s best effort over the last month — including Robert Quinn’s 3.5 sacks — they ultimately couldn’t hold off a late rally by the Ravens, who booted a game-winning field goal with less than 30 seconds remaining.

The boo birds were out in full force Sunday at Soldier Field, where fans were caught starting a “Fire Matt Nagy” chant. Which isn’t the first time this has happened this season.

At this point, it seems like a foregone conclusion that Nagy won’t return in 2022. And if he does, God help the Bears organization.

After George McCaskey and Ted Phillips defended the decision to move forward with Nagy following the 2020 season, there’s no defending a second five-game losing streak in as many seasons. Even they have to know that.

The Bears have never fired a head coach midseason. But if Chicago manages to give the winless Lions their first win of the season, all bets are off.
