Washington vs. Chargers betting odds: Week 1 moneyline, spread originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The 2021 NFL regular season is quickly approaching after three weeks of preseason games.

The Washington Football Team had a busy offseason after winning the NFC East in 2020, making a change at quarterback with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. Washington’s strength again, though, will be on defense. Chase Young returns for his second season after winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020, and linebacker Jamin Davis was drafted 19th overall in April.

Looking ahead to the regular season schedule, Washington will begin with an out-of-conference matchup at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Here’s the full betting preview for Washington’s Week 1 game against the Chargers:

Washington vs. Chargers Moneyline, Spread and Total

Line: Washington +1

Over/under: 44.5

Washington team total O/U: 21.5

Chargers team total O/U: 22.5

Moneyline: Washington +100 | Chargers -121

The Washington Football Team and Chargers have only played 11 times in history, with WFT holding the 7-4 series advantage. The teams last met in 2017 when Philip Rivers’ Chargers toppled Kirk Cousins’ Washington squad 30-13. This year will be a whole different story as most players from that game are on different teams or out of the league.

Washington finished 7-9 last year, good enough to win the lowly NFC East. Led by Taylor Heinicke, WFT nearly upset the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round before losing 31-23. Fitzpatrick will take over at quarterback for 2021 as Washington looks to take the next step in Year 2 under coach Ron Rivera.

Los Angeles is going through a huge transition period in recent years. Justin Herbert took over at quarterback last year and won Offensive Rookie of the Year for the 7-9 Chargers. While they finished with the same record as Washington, the Chargers weren’t able to sneak into the postseason. Brandon Staley was hired after the team fired Anthony Lynn, meaning he’ll make his head coaching debut against WFT.

Washington Futures Odds Before Week 1

Oddsmakers still don’t fully believe in Washington after their division-winning 2020 season. WFT isn’t a huge longshot to make the playoffs or win the division, but a Super Bowl win looks unlikely based on the PointsBet odds.

Washington to make the playoffs +150

Washington to win the NFC East +260 (second-best in the division)

Washington to win the Super Bowl +5000 (tied for 20th in the NFL)

You can also place futures bets on various Washington players to win season-long awards. Here are some of those odds:

Ryan Fitzpatrick to win MVP +10000

Antonio Gibson to win Offensive Player of the Year +5000

Terry McLaurin to win Offensive Player of the Year +8000

Chase Young to win Defensive Player of the Year +1200
