Landon Collins says he'll be ready for Week 1 vs. Chargers originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Landon Collins missed most of the 2020 campaign after rupturing his Achillies last October, but the Washington Football Team safety says he'll be ready for the start of the 2021 season.

"I'll be ready for Week 1," Collins told local media via Zoom on Tuesday following Washington's voluntary offseason practice.

Tuesday's Organized Team Activity (OTA) session was Washington's second of the spring, but the first of such open to the media this offseason. Collins participated in multiple drills and appeared to be moving well.

When asked how he currently feels approximately seven months after the injury, Collins used the adjectives "great," "strong" and "awesome."

"It's been a long journey," Collins said. "I feel like myself again."

Additionally, Collins said that he has passed every hurdle of his recovery so far. For now, he's focused on getting the muscle memory back of his running form and getting more confident sprinting and cutting on the field.

Throughout this rehab process, the safety said he's been relying on a team of doctors in Miami, Louisiana and New Jersey. Collins has been getting worked on three to four times each week, with his progress constantly being monitored.

"It takes time. It takes a lot of trust," Collins said on his recovery. "You just gotta believe, believe in yourself that you can do it again."

Overcoming any significant injury is extremely difficult, but especially returning from a ruptured Achilles, considered one of the worst injuries in sports.

As he returns to the field, Collins is not worried about hitting a setback or getting injured again. His focus is solely on getting back to 100 percent and being ready for Washington's Week 1 opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Am I afraid? No," Collins said. "I have all the confidence in the world right now."
