Ron Rivera receives most Chicago care package from Portillo's originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
There’s no taste like home. No one knows that better than Ron Rivera, who received a care package from Portillo’s last Friday.
Thank you @portilloshotdog for sending me this delicious care package. Don't worry, no chocolate cake for my dog #Tahoe. But can't guarantee he won't get a bite of my #ItalianBeef #notanad pic.twitter.com/TyjZnSsjxT— Ron Rivera (@RiverboatRonHC) October 9, 2020
Hopefully the Italian beef and chocolate cake help lift the spirits of Rivera, who has been battling a squamous cell carcinoma in one of his lymph nodes while coaching this season. On the field, things haven’t been much better as Rivera recently made the decision to switch starting QBs to help his 1-3 Football Team.
While Rivera may not have grown up in Chicago, he spent his entire pro career playing for the Bears and was a member of the 1985 Super Bowl Champs. Rivera also spent five years across two different stints as a Bears coach. First from 1997-98 as a defensive quality control coach, then from 2004-2006 as the defensive coordinator. Since then, Rivera has acted as head coach of the Carolina Panthers from 2011-19, and head coach of the Washington Football Team this season.
