An unnamed player on the Washington Football Team tested positive for the coronavirus Monday, the team announced with a statement Tuesday morning. Washington has begun conducting contact tracing and multiple people who came into contact with the player have been instructed to quarantine.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s Michael Phillips, the player that tested positive didn’t travel with Washington for its game against the Detroit Lions.

In any case, Washington plans to hold all meetings virtually this week with its training facility in Ashburn opened in limited capacity for players. No update was given on Washington’s upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The NFL has seen several teams place players on the reserve/COVID list in recent weeks, though it’s managed to avoid postponing any games in over a month. Teams such as the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers played last week despite having players that tested positive.

Washington’s announcement comes on the heels of the New York Giants placing kicker Graham Gano in COVID protocol and identifying two staff members as “high risk” close contacts.
