Several aspects of Washington’s 2021 season should have fans buzzing. Almost all key players are returning to the squad, the 82-game schedule is back, and Alex Ovechkin will continue his quest to catch Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record.

With single-game tickets now available, here are a few dates Capitals fans might want to get their hands on:

Oct. 13: Home opener vs. New York Rangers

A rematch of last May's penalty-filled game vs. the New York Rangers that included six total fights and 141 penalty minutes. The two teams won't have to wait long to renew acquaintances with the first game of the season at Capital One Arena.

Oct. 16: Caps host two-time Stanley Cup champion Lightning

For the first time since Tampa Bay completed the all-elusive back-to-back Stanley Cup defense, Washington will get a taste of the Lightning at home. It was Washington that denied Tampa a chance at a 2018 title with its dramatic Game 7 win in the Eastern Conference Final on the way to the championship that year.

Nov. 14: Penguins visit D.C. for the first time

Every Capitals fan circles the games against the Penguins on their annual calendar. This year is no different. This is the first one.

Jan. 10: Bruins visit D.C. for playoff rematch

When 2022 is in its infancy stages, Washington will play host to the Boston Bruins for the first time all season. It’ll be the first appearance the B’s make in the nation’s capital since their 4-1 series win in the first round of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Mar. 5: Caps get a crack at the Kraken

Will the NHL’s newest expansion team, the Seattle Kraken, perform as well as the Vegas Golden Knights did in their inaugural season? Caps fans remember that Knights' season well given they beat them in the Stanley Cup Final. Can Seattle match that illustrious expansion season? We'll see if the Kraken is in the payoff picture when the new guys on the block visit D.C. late in the season in March.
