Warriors turn back Trojans

Oct. 26—The West Caldwell boys soccer team defeated Bandys 7-1 on Monday night in Catawba.

The Warriors are now 11-5-5 overall and 9-2-2 in Catawba Valley Athletic 2A Conference action with the victory.

West Caldwell scored first when senior forward Gerson Lopez took a pass from senior Axell Briones and found the back of the net five minutes into the first half.

First-half action was primarily played in the midfield, and the Warriors led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Lopez scored his second goal off a Chris Ramirez assist to give West Caldwell a 2-0 lead.

Bandys managed to get on board to make the score 2-1 before the Warriors went on to score five goals in twenty minutes.

Lopez found the back of the net two more times, thanks to assists from junior forward Jair Elvis Mendes and junior midfielder Jayco Castro.

Castro then scored a goal off an assist from junior midfielder Daniel Portillo.

West Caldwell scored its seventh and final goal when Portillo connected off an assist from Castro to make the score 7-1.

West Caldwell head coach Thomas Clark said he liked what he saw from the Warriors in the second half.

"I am very pleased with how we played in the second half. Bandys is a well-coached team and brought the energy for their senior night in the first half," Clark said. "We did not match their first-half energy.

"However, the way my guys came out after halftime made me feel like we still have a lot left in the tank at the end of this long season."
