Warriors survive offensive battle against Somerset

Mar. 29—Both Southwestern and Somerset were on winning streaks heading into a Thursday evening clash at the War Path. Whose winning streak would survive? That simply came down to whichever team had the better offense, and although both teams collected 10+ hits and Southwestern had the lead for the entire game, the Jumpers nearly made a come back before falling 12-10.

Both Brynn Troxell and Arabella Lowery had two RBI's apiece to lead the Warriors, with Troxell collecting three doubles and going a perfect 4-4 from the plate. Kylie Dalton, Abigail Whitescarver, Macie Gwin and Jayla Singleton each had an RBI apiece, with Dalton also hitting three doubles. Danielle Taylor recorded two stolen bases. Singleton earned the win on the mound, going three and one-third innings while allowing five runs on three hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Whitescarver earned the save, closing out the game with two walks and a strikeout.

The Jumpers were led by Mollie Lucas and Emme Goforth with three RBI's apiece, with Lucas hitting two doubles. Jazlynn Shadoan, Grace Prichard and Addy White each had an RBI in the game. Aleah Wesley also recorded a hit. Lucas, Shadoan and Baley Gretzner each had a stolen base. White earned the loss and threw two strikeouts during her time on the mound.

Somerset falls to 4-5 and will travel to Madison Southern on Friday before a trek to Monticello to take on Wayne County on Saturday at Noon.

Southwestern improves to 7-3 and will travel to East Jessamine to take on the defending 12th Region champions on Friday before a week off due to Spring Break.
