Several errors doomed the Rochester softball team on Friday, and Aberdeen took advantage, downing the Warriors 8-6.

After the Warriors (2-3, 0-1 2A EvCo) took a 1-0 lead in the first, Aberdeen put up two in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead.

Rochester tied the game with one in the fourth and two in the fifth, but the Bobcats scored four in the seventh, and the Warriors couldn't match in the bottom half.

Layna Demers pitched a complete game in the circle, and of the eight runs she allowed, just two of them were earned.

"Just kind of an uncharacteristic day for us on defense," Rochester coach Joni Lancaster said. "Just had a lot of routine errors that we don't usually make ... We were a little bit off."

Sara Haury ignited the Rochester offense with a triple and a double, going 3 for 4 while scoring two runs and driving in another.

"She was ready and executed everything we prepared for," Lancaster said. "And it showed. She did well."

While disappointed with the loss, Lancaster is still excited about the outlook of the rest of the league season, saying that if they can play that well and limit the mistakes on the defensive end, they'll be in a good spot moving forward.

The Warriors will get the chance to get to .500 in league play on Monday, when they'll head to Shelton to face the Highclimbers.
