Kevin Durant suffered an Achilles injury during Game 5 of the NBA Finals, overshadowing Golden State’s 106-105 victory over Toronto on Wednesday, and a number of fans at Scotiabank Arena gave the Warriors star a very hard time upon collapsing to the floor.
Steph Curry and the rest of the Warriors were nearly inconsolable after the game, and weren’t happy about how their star teammate was treated by a faction of the Raptors’ fan base.
“Very confused around that reaction,” Curry said to the media after the final buzzer. “It’s not my experience with people of this city. I commend Danny Green and Kyle Lowry especially. I think they were the ones that were kind of signalling to the crowd, like, ‘let’s check ourselves a little bit.’”
“You understand that this is about an individual, a human being and not ‘oh shoot, he’s out, he’s hurt, we won the championship.’ That’s probably their initial thought and you hate to see that when a guy is going through pain like that,” Curry said.

Curry is perhaps uniquely qualified to speak about the character of the city, having lived in Toronto during the tail end of his father Dell’s NBA career, while his in-laws are from Markham. It’s still a pretty bad look for the city to ridicule Durant.
Warriors forward Draymond Green was more to the point after the game.
“That’s classless... I’ve always witnessed Canadians being nice people and that was classless,” Green said.
DeMarcus Cousins, who stepped up in Durant’s absence, was more succinct about the entire situation.

The Warriors will almost certainly have to rally without Durant, as the series goes back to Oracle Arena for Game 6 with the Raptors up 3-2 on Thursday.
