Warriors lose rematch to Mercer in region

Mar. 6—The Southwestern Warriors and Mercer County Titans squared off for the second time in the past three weeks on Wednesday night, with a spot in the 12th Region semifinals hanging in the balance.

It was a low-scoring affair between both teams early on, with both teams stuck in single digits on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter. The Titans closed the first half on a 9-3 run to take an eight-point lead into the break, with only two Southwestern players having scored in the ball game. The Warriors kept on cutting the lead down to six during the third period, but Mercer kept on pushing the lead back. It started to become desperation time in the fourth quarter for the Warriors, but stellar play from Trevor Ellis prevented a comeback time and time again. A late four-point play from Connor Hudson gave the visitors on the scoreboard a bit of momentum, but it just wasn't enough as Mercer County ended the season of the Warriors 55-42. Hudson scored 20 points to lead the Warriors in his final game in the blue and orange.

Southwestern's season comes to an end with a record of 14-17 and with the loss, the careers of Hudson, Collin Hibbard, Hunter Hamm and Cameron Shipp comes to a close. Best of luck to them in all of their future endeavors.
