The Rochester softball team got back in the win column on Monday, taking down Shelton 13-8.

The Warriors (3-3, 1-1 2A EvCo) came out firing at the plate, scoring two in the first, four in the second, and two in the third to take an 8-0 lead.

Rochester coach Joni Lancaster said that the Warriors focused on finding their pitch and being disciplined at the plate, which showed early on.

The Highclimers got on the board in the bottom of the third, but the Warriors pushed their lead to double-digits with a five-run fifth.

Shelton put up seven in the bottom of the fifth to get back within five, but it never got any closer.

"They stayed together, fought through it, and got us out of it," Lancaster said. "At the end of the day, a win is a win, and we move on. I'm proud of them all."

Layna Demers gave up just one run over six innings in the circle and drove in two at the plate, and Cheyenne Justice went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Justice is off to a great start this spring, as she's hitting .409 and has already tallied five RBIs.

"Cheyenne put in a lot of work in the offseason, and it's showing," Lancaster said. "She's a real tough out, whether she puts a bat on the ball or not. She's competing at the plate every at-bat and uses her speed to her advantage."

League play continues for the Warriors on Wednesday, when they'll head north to take on Tumwater.
