If the Los Angeles Lakers expect to fill Magic Johnson’s vacant role as president of basketball operations, they’ll have to look past Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Myers laughed at the idea of jumping ship from the Warriors to the Lakers.

When asked by a reporter if he should be at lunch with Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss, Myers responded, “Oh, right. Almost forgot. [Looks at his watch] I’m supposed to meet her at 2.”

Myers reportedly “laughed a laugh that suggests he’s not eager to go anywhere anytime soon,” according to Monte Poole.

Not the only one to turn down Lakers

Myers wouldn’t be the first person to move past rumors of joining the Lakers.

Recently, Miami Heat president Pat Riley said that he wanted to finish his career with the Heat and not the Lakers.

Via The Athletic:

“There’s no doubt that I have a history with that team. I was there for 20 years and I have a lot of friends still in the organization. I had a good conversation with Magic after he stepped down and I’m sure they’ll work it out. I’m not going to be part of that. That’s not what I want to do.”

Instead, Riley wants to finish what he started in Miami. A place he believes is currently “at the launching pad” and in line for future success.

While the Lakers look for a Magic Johnson replacement, they will turn their attention towards a Luke Walton replacement as well.

The team has been granted permission to meet with Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams and will travel to meet with him between Game 2 and 3 of the playoffs, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The team will also meet with Ty Lue next week for the open coaching position, per reports.
