The Coloradoan is proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series for this high school year, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes.

There are five nominees every week, and fans can vote every Monday through Wednesday at coloradoan.com/sports/high-school-sports.

As basketball hits the playoffs and other winters sports wrap up, here is the 20th edition of the 2023-24 school year for the week of Feb. 18-24

You can find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Voting is open until 11 p.m. Wednesday each week, with the winner announced on Thursday at Coloradoan.com and via the Coloradoan's Instagram page.

Fans can nominate top-performing athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.

The following athletes are nominated for their performances last week (Feb. 18-24):

  • Tiana Guzman, Timnath girls basketball: The Cubs' sophomore had a big week in the district tournament, scoring 35 points with 13 rebounds over two games. Her performance helped Timnath finish third in the bracket and earn a No. 11 seed in the 3A playoffs.

  • Reyleigh Hess, Windsor girls basketball: The Wizards' junior was the offensive anchor as Windsor opened its playoff run with two home wins. Hess combined for 26 points and 12 rebounds, also helping spark an 18-point comeback victory vs. Littleton in the second round.

  • Cade Shortridge, PSD boys skiing: The PSD ski team has its first state title thanks to the Stars' senior! Shortridge won the nordic program's first-ever state championship in the 5km skate event and also finished 8th in the classic skate. The PSD boys finished top-3 in both events.

  • Madden Smiley, Windsor boys basketball: The Wizards' sophomore posted 32 points and 11 rebounds over two playoff games, helping Windsor advance back to the Great 8 at the Denver Coliseum. He scored 20 with five rebounds and two steals in a first-round win over Standley Lake.

  • Clara Statkus, PSD girls skiing: The Stars' senior took third place in both the classic and skate events at the nordic ski state championships last week, the best-ever PSD girls finishes at state. She also helped the Stars girls finish third in the skate team standings and top-10 overall.
