Vols sweep Gonzaga, extends win-streak to 11 games
No. 2 Tennessee (11-2) defeated Gonzaga (1-10), 17-9, Sunday to at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
With the win, Tennessee completed a three-game sweep against the Bulldogs.
Tennessee trailed, 2-0, after Gonzaga scored two runs in the third inning.
The Vols answered with eight runs in the bottom of the frame. Jared Dickey hit a grand slam, Maui Ahuna added a two-run double and Christian Moore hit a two-run home run to extend the Vols lead to 8-2.
After the Bulldogs pulled to within 8-3 in the fourth inning, Tennessee’s Griffin Merritt hit a two-run home run.
Zane Denton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Ahuna recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
Tennessee extended its advantage to, 17-8, in the eighth inning, scoring five runs. Denton hit a two-run triple, while Christian Scott hit a scoring single. Kyle Booker scored on a balk and Ahuna had an RBI groundout.
