Vols’ game day: Tennessee’s all-time results on Oct. 2

When Tennessee travels to Columbia, Missouri Saturday, it will mark the 15th time the Volunteers have played on Oct. 2.

In its previous games on this date, Tennessee has a record of 9-3-2.

The Vols first played on Oct. 2 in 1909 when it tied Centre College, 0-0, in Knoxville.

Tennessee last played on this date in 2010, the first year of Derek Dooley’s tenure as head coach. The Vols lost a 16-14 decision to LSU in Baton Rouge.

The Vols have played Auburn twice on Oct. 2, splitting a pair of games with the Tigers.

UT defeated Auburn, 24-0, at home in 1999. The Tigers prevailed, 34-10, in 2004 at Auburn.

The Vols have played Duke three times on this date and are 1-1-1 against the Blue Devils on Oct. 2. The two teams played to a 7-7 tie in 1948 at Durham. Duke prevailed, 7-6, at home in 1954 when it was the No. 7 team in the country.

Tennessee defeated Duke, 52-19, in 1993.
