Vols defeat Dayton to win fourth consecutive game

No. 2 Tennessee (4-2) won its fourth consecutive game Friday, defeating Dayton (0-4), 12-2, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols were without head coach Tony Vitello. He is serving a three-game suspension.

Tennessee trailed in the first inning when the Flyers’ Marcos Pujols hit a two-run home run off Chase Dollander (1-1).

Blake Burke had an RBI single and Zane Denton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game, 2-2.

Jared Dickey gave Tennessee a 3-2 lead in the second inning with a scoring single.

The Vols scored five runs in the third inning as Austen Jaslove hit a two-run single. Charlie Taylor drove in a run with a double and Dickey hit a two-run home run, increasing Tennessee’s lead to 8-2.

Griffin Merritt hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Denton hit a scoring triple in the seventh inning and Tennessee added another run when Taylor scored on an error.

Jake Kendro scored in eighth inning with a home run.

Dollander pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering two runs, five hits and one walk. He recorded 12 strikeouts.
