Volleyball roundup: Jags have a stellar weekend

Sep. 24—ARLINGTON — The Renville County West volleyball team had a stellar weekend at the Sibley East Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.

The Jaguars won the invite championship over host Sibley East 25-16, 25-13. RCW went 3-0 in pool play before beating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the semifinals 25-7, 25-22.

RCW did not drop a single set through its five matches.

In pool play, the Jaguars beat Chisago Lakes 25-14, 25-17, Nicollet 25-6, 25-16 and Sibley East 25-12, 25-13.

RCW was led by the likes of Rachel Jakel, Avery Roxberg and Johanna Braun.

Jakel led the Jaguars with 33 kills and 44 digs, adding seven ace serves. Roxberg had 28 kills and tacked on 11 ace blocks. Braun dished out 94 set assists, adding 33 digs and eight ace serves.

The Jaguars (13-1-1) play host to Lakeview at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Renville.

Litchfield went 2-2 at the Charger Challenge at Cokato.

The Dragons picked up a pair of wins over Dassel-Cokato (25-15, 25-19) and Eden Valley-Watkins (25-16, 26-24). Litchfield lost to Melrose (22-25, 25-10, 15-2) and Mankato East (25-16, 25-13).

Litchfield travels to Annandale at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

MACCRAY went 1-2 at Day 2 of the MN Volleyball Showcase at Burnsville.

The Wolverines lost to New Life Academy, beat Kittson County Central and finished their tournament play with a loss against Bethlehem Academy.

MACCRAY finished with a 2-3 overall record at the showcase. The Wolverines opened up the tournament with a loss against Mabel-Canton and bounced back with a victory over Cleveland on Friday.

The Wolverines travel to Canby for a Camden Conference matchup at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Lac qui Parle Valley finished with a 2-2-1 record in the St. James Invitational.

The Eagles beat Edgerton twice to earn their pair of wins. LQPV lost to St. James and Le Sueur-Henderson, while tying New Ulm Cathedral.

LQPV plays Yellow Medicine East at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday for a Camden Conference match at Granite Falls.
