Vikings take a shot on a surprising quarterback in Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft
Make no mistake about it, the Minnesota Vikings need a franchise quarterback. In the latest mock draft from Daniel Jeremiah, he has the Vikings taking that player in Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker with the 23rd overall pick.
Here is what Jeremiah had to say about sending the Vikings Hooker.
The Vikings have been doing their homework on this quarterback class. Hooker is well-liked around the league and he could sit for a year behind Kirk Cousins before taking over and ushering in a new era for Kevin O’Connell.
The idea is great and one I have been asking the Vikings to do for quite some time. Unfortunately, this is not the player the Vikings should be taking a chance with in the first round or even the second round. This is my summary of Hooker on his scouting report.
Hooker has some traits that are worth developing but is it worth it considering his age? He isn’t a 21-year-old, you are looking a player that should be entering his prime but instead needs development.
I would personally stay away from Hooker at where I expect him to go, which is on day two, potentially top-40. However, if he ends up falling down to day three, I would definitely consider it. At worst, he’s a cheap backup and he won’t have big expectations put upon him.
You would be asking a 25 year old quarterback to figure out progressions and play in a pro-style offense, something he did in 2019 and 2020 at Virginia Tech, but wasn’t good without the gimmicks of the Tennessee Veer and Shoot.
This would be a pick rooted in pretty good process, but the player just isn’t worth it.
