Vikings make several roster moves

Minnesota had a decision to make about RB Ameer Abdullah soon.

If the Vikings wanted to elevate him again this week and anytime after this, the team would have to sign him to active roster. So, Minnesota did that earlier than needed: the Vikings signed Abdullah and waived tight end Brandon Dillon in the process.

Dillon was a reserve behind Tyler Conklin and Chris Herndon on the depth chart. With blocking tight end Ben Ellefson on the roster as well, Minnesota opted to go with less depth at the tight end position group.

Minnesota signing Abdullah makes sense. He offers something as a receiving running back and can add depth to the return game.

In addition to signing Abdullah, the Vikings elevated QB Sean Mannion and S Myles Dorn from the practice squad to the active roster. Mannion will likely not play, unless Kirk Cousins goes down with an injury. But Myles Dorn may see some reps on special teams, maybe even playing some snaps on defense.
