Viking tennis falls to Seaforth in opener

Feb. 28—Union Pines usually rules the roost over most everyone in tennis, but the Vikings had their hands full with another local powerhouse Monday evening, as they received a visit from Seaforth.

Although some of the matches were competitive, Union Pines was swept by the Hawks in the season opener for both teams. Seaforth, coming off a 15-2 season in which it reached the 2A East Regional final, topped Union Pines 9-0 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

In singles, going down the line, Walker Magrinat beat Lane McPherson 8-4, Felton Burleigh downed Joey Tortora 8-0, Matt Bouser defeated Tucker Lloyd 8-1, Gabriel Gonzalez topped Jace McPherson 8-0, Henry McFall beat Cam Deibel 8-0, and Brenna Luster stopped Dominic Roett 8-1.

In doubles, Bouser-McFall blanked L. McPherson-Tortora 8-0, Gonzalez-Luster edged Lloyd-McPherson 8-6, and Logan Ching-Luigi Bacceerelli beat Deibel-Roett 8-4.

Union Pines travels to Lee County Thursday afternoon.
