After their Day 2 victory over Lyon Gaming, Southeast Asian representative GIGABYTE Marines Esports clinched their spot in the second round of the League of Legends 2017 Mid-Season Invitational Play-in.

Hailing from Vietnam, Marines continuously caught their Group B opponents off-guard with superior skirmishing and teamfighting, often diving turrents for kills. Jungler Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh was the standout player from Marines, and his synergy with mid laner Trần “Optimus” Văn Cường formed the backbone of Marines’ victories. They finished the group with a 5-1 record, dropping only one game to Virtus.pro.

Following the conclusion of Group B, Riot Games held a draw to determine which minor region team would face either North America’s representative Team SoloMid or LoL Masters Series representative Flash Wolves. Marines drew TSM, leaving SuperMassive to face Flash Wolves.
