Yahoo Sports' Christopher Sullivan says a lack of chemistry and poor lineup choices need to be fixed despite a 2-1 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
For most basketball players who are projected to go at or near the top of the draft, their first income won't be their rookie contract, but rather their first shoe deal. "In his meetings with all three companies, LaVar insisted that they license his upstart Big Baller Brand from him," wrote Rovell.
An inspired Dominic Thiem progressed to the final of the Barcelona Open with a thrilling three-set victory over an out-of-sorts Andy Murray. World number one Murray, who had a 2-0 head-to-head record over Thiem prior to the encounter, had to battle to victory over Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Friday, but 24 hours later succumbed to a 6-2 3-6 6-4 defeat. The Scot appeared to have turned the tide after levelling the match and going up an early break in the decider, but Thiem was rewarded for his aggressive and accurate play, and he can now look forward to a final with nine-time champion Rafael Nadal or Horacio Zeballos.
The Bears finished 313 last season, ranking in the bottom third of the NFL in total offense and points allowed. Last year was sixth straight season that Chicago has missed the playoffs. How will they use their picks in the NFL draft?
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports / USA TODAY Sports No one could be happier with the play of Marc-Andre Fleury this postseason than the Pittsburgh Penguins brass, except maybe the brain-trust in Las Vegas. Fleury has put to rest any doubts about his postseason performance and is playing his best playoff hockey since the 2007-08 campaign. He's made general manager Jim Rutherford look like a genius for not dealing him this season. Many expected that Fleury's days in Pittsburgh would be numbered with the impending NHL expansion draft. Matt Murray proved last season and through most of this regular season that he is the franchise's goalie of the future, leaving doubts about Fleury's role. However,

What convinced the New York Giants to use the 87th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on Davis Webb, hopefully turning him into their quarterback of the future. Let’s let Jerry Reese, Ben McAdoo and Marc Ross explain. General manager Jerry Reese “He (Webb) was very productive in that offense, like a lot of quarterbacks are. We thought that he had the best arm in the draft this year, really a gifted arm, thrower. For a tall guy, he is a good athlete. He can be off schedule and buy some time with his legs, so there are a lot of things that we liked about him. We think that he will have time – like we said earlier, Eli has however much time that he has left, two or three years left in his contract or however
Chris Stroud knew something was going on with his ball when he lined up a birdie putt from just off the green at No. 8 Thursday at the Zurich Classic. The ball was on a downslope and appeared to be moving ever so slightly, then it magically rolled onto the green. Stroud made the birdie putt from the new position, and he teamed with Brian Stuard for a 4-under 68.
On Sunday, Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes was ejected for throwing at Orioles third baseman Manny Machado‘s head. It was revenge for a slide of Machado’s which ended up injuring Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Hall of Famer and former Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez said that if he were in Barnes’ shoes, he would have also thrown at Machado, although not necessarily at his head.
If you’ve been watching football for a while, as I’d presume if you’re reading this, you have had, you’ve no doubt seen many free kicks taken, and a few even scored from. You might recall perfect left-footed curlers from Marcos Alonso. You might recall perfect right-footed curlers from Willian. You might recall knuckle-ballers from the likes of David Luiz or Didier Drogba or Cristiano Ronaldo. You might even recall other famous free kicks and free kick-takers from down the years. Whenever I’m asked about free kicks, for example, I invariably end up talking at least briefly about Thomas Häßler, who was famously tiny and had even tinier feet, which as my anecdote goes, allowed him to put the most
Maria Sharapova won again Friday to move into the Porsche Grand Prix semifinals, where she will face feisty Kristina Mladenovic, one of several players who has criticized Sharapova for her doping violation that led to a 15-month ban. Sharapova, similar to the day prior when she claimed she was “way above” engaging in war of words with tennis starlet Eugenie Bouchard, said she will not use Mladenovic’s rip jobs as added motivation in their semifinal. “I’m not someone that uses that as part of my comeback,” Sharapova said. “My results have spoken for everything that I should speak for. And that’s all that matters. The biggest part of my comeback is what’s out on the court and I will leave it at
The feverous rush to grade Thursday’s first round of the NFL draft is underway with plenty of analysis of what each of the picks could mean for NFL teams’ futures. While much of that is impossible to accurately assess until the players spend a few seasons with their new pro teams, we can much more precisely break down which college programs won the draft.
Immediately on the heels of drafting the player who might be the best nickel corner in the draft, the Cowboys apparently want to maximize the investment. Incumbent nickel corner Orlando Scandrick is reported to be on the trade block. Scandrick has been oft-injured. He played in just 12 games in 2016 after suffering hamstring injuries. This was on the heels of missing the entire 2015 season when he suffered an ACL tear late in training camp. Scandrick has missed 27 games over the last five years of his career. The second-round pick, Awuzie, has a similar skillset to Scandrick, but is a little bigger. He’s capable of playing single-high safety and blitzing as well as being in the slot against the
Kevin Shattenkirk is new to the Capitals-Penguins rivalry. As a trade deadline acquisition, he has only been with the Caps for about two months. He has not built up a lifetime of hatred for Pittsburgh as have most Caps fans, he does not have painful memories of the series in 2009 or 2016, he has not even had a regular season to accept that fact that he now must hate the Penguins instead of the Chicago Blackhawks like he did in St. Louis. Instead, Shattenkirk brings his own rivalry to this second-round matchup, a personal one between himself and Penguins forward Nick Bonino. “We've battled for years in many different ways,” Shattenkirk said. “In practices, on the golf course, there's plenty of
Jorge Masvidal has revealed there would be no problem if he had to face welterweight champion and teammate Tyron Woodley for his title. Masvidal (32-11 record in MMA) is set to take on submission specialist Demian Maia at UFC 211, with the winner of the bout expected to challenge "The Chosen One" for his belt. Masvidal reiterated that he would have no issues taking on American Top Team (ATT) teammate Woodley, having previously stated the two are buddies but when it comes to the title, things are different.
Martavis Bryant was recently reinstated after a year-long suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's drug policy, but he might be subject to another round of "random" testing after a tweet he shared during the NFL draft. After the Steelers selected wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in the second round of the draft, prompting some fans to suggest Bryant's job is in jeopardy, Bryant posted this: Sammie Coates is Bryant's teammate, so it's more than a little unusual for Bryant to throw him under the bus like this. For his part, Coates seemed to take the tweet in stride: Head coach Mike Tomlin immediately caught wind of the situation, taking to Twitter in an attempt to squash the situation.

Honda Formula 1 chief Yusuke Hasegawa has defended the decision to redesign its power unit layout for 2017 despite suffering a number of reliability and performance issues at the start of the season. Entering its third year since returning to F1 as an engine supplier, Honda looked to make gains by revising the layout of its power unit to mirror that of pace-setter Mercedes. The decision appeared to backfire, though, with a lack of both performance and reliability leaving customer team McLaren frustrated and without a single point after three races.
The Orioles and Red Sox were party to recent controversy when Boston reliever Matt Barnes came perilously close to hitting Manny Machado in the face with a fastball ... This was in retaliation for Machado's hard slide into Dustin Pedroia two days before, but as we adjudicated in a relevant episode of Kangaroo Court , purpose pitches thrown at a batter's head aren't cool. Pedroia, for one, was of a similar opinion. Also of a similar opinion? Hall of Famer and Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez. Well, he's in agreement when it comes to the location of the purpose pitch. Via Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, here's the money quote from Pedro ... "I would react the same way except I would try
What did the New York Giants see that led them to select defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Friday night. Let’s let them explain. General manager Jerry Reese “Big guy that we think can come in and compete for a starting job for us. Create a lot of competition at that position. He’s a two-gap type player. He can hold the point of attack, has that NFL toughness that we like and the profile that we like. We thought he was a terrific pick right here right now at this point in the draft.” On whether need at defensive tackle increased when Johnathan Hankins left via free agency ... “We’re just trying to pick good players. Obviously Hank left, so that created
Barcelona defender Lucas Digne has hailed the contribution of Lionel Messi, whose double in last Sunday’s Clasico kept the Camp Nou side in the race to win La Liga. Messi scored his 500th goal for Barca in a 3-2 win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, doing so in dramatic circumstances as he fired home in the final seconds of injury time to secure a priceless three points for his side. “Messi is like that: when you think you have seen it all, he surprises you,” Digne told Goal.
NBC analyst Mike Milbury called P.K. Subban a clown for dancing during warmups. NBC analyst Mike Milbury used the word “clown” on multiple occasions in his predictable criticism of Subban’s dancing and general contentment in warmups prior to Game 2 between the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues on Friday night.
Five years ago on Friday, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout turned into the superstar we all know today. Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register chronicled Trout’s journey, from his disappointing debut to the day he finally arrived. It’s a good read, and a nice look into some of the aspects that drove Trout’s success. It’s fitting, then, that Trout and the Angels are featured as Friday’s MLB Free Game of the Day on Yahoo Sports.
Where yesterday saw the offensive explosion but defense ultimately winning the day; it was all about defense in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. It's definitely nerve-wracking as a Cowboys' fan to watch a lot of defensive backs fly off the board. Right off the bat, the Packer started it off with Kevin King, the cornerback that most Cowboys' fans will compare careers with Taco Charlton forever. The Cardinals traded up and selected Budda Baker, the Washington safety that is an awful lot like the "Honey Badger", Tyrann Mathieu. The Jets flew in and scooped up safety, Marcus Maye, that's two safeties with Jamal Adams in the first round for those counting at home. A few picks later, those drunkards
