Video Transcript

LAJETHRO JENKINS: What's up, I'm LaJethro Jenkins. I'm here with everybody's favorite golf influencer, Roger Steele. What's gucci, my G?

ROGER STEELE: Yo, yo, yo. What's good, what's good?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Yo, I mean that. You're everybody's favorite golf influencer. I know people who aren't even into golf who mess with you. How did all this start?

ROGER STEELE: You know, pretty much when COVID happened and all that social unrest happened, I got fired from all my gigs. So, I've got a media company, I was servicing a bunch of different accounts. So then, I was just like, man, why don't I just start saying what I feel about stuff and then see if people resonate with it? And then it just-- you know, I started posting some stuff and people started gravitating towards it. So I was like, man. It's kind of like a lane of its own.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: I've seen people like-- NBA players like Steph Curry in your mentions, you know what I mean? How long do you think it is until we see you out here playing with these dudes?

ROGER STEEL: I'm jumping on this show with you trying to expedite that.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Hey, that would be a great--

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

ROGER STEELE: You know what I mean? Trying to expedite that.

If I could just be a touch point to help people understand the game-- have fun with it, but understand this is what we can do, this and what we can't do. And figure out how we all fit into that mix. I would love the opportunity. I feel like it's close but we'll see how it all shake out.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: But I know you cool with Kamaiu and Willie. We know about they story, you know what I mean? Playing with them, how do you-- like, seeing actual dudes that have been on the tour, how does that feel?

ROGER STEELE: So I done whooped Willie a couple times, low key.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Low key, though. Low key, though.

ROGER STEELE: He ain't going to tell y'all that, but Willie got a couple of cash [INAUDIBLE]

LAJETHRO JENKINS: And Willie a dawg, too--

ROGER STEELE: You know I'm talking about?

They special talent. And I just know with the right exposure, they're going to be permanent fixtures out there.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: You talk about changing the field of golf. What do you mean by that?

ROGER STEELE: Bro, like, I should be able to be who I am on the basketball court on the golf course. A lot of times, when people try to force their personalities into golf, they don't necessarily have the pedigree or the experience with the game where they know it intimately enough and can represent it at a high level, right? When you take good golfers and you showcase them in an authentic light, it's like, people got to respect that. If I come out to a course and I'm dressed how I'm dressed, I'm listening to the music I'm listening to, it's like bro, you're going to tell me to tone down what I'm doing, but you can't beat me, though.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Right, right.

ROGER STEELE: And I think that that's the layer to it. So while I'm talking all this, like, be yourself, I keep working at it for real, though. You know what I mean?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: COVID got me, I've been playing for like six months. So what type of advice would you give to people that are just picking up the sport, like myself?

ROGER STEELE: Go get y'all some lessons, ASAP.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: I got me some lessons.

ROGER STEELE: You've got some lessons?

My first thing, buy you a talented golf pro. If you need some recommendations, hit me up so I can get a percentage off of it when I introduce y'all. And yeah, we could just do it like that, you know what I mean?

But I think that you've got to get your foundation right. They say that to get decent at golf, it takes like seven years. It's like a seven year commitment before you've really, really kind of got what's going on. You go see a pro, you could drastically reduce the amount of time that that takes, you know what I mean?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: All right man, I appreciate you, Roger. I'm a big fan of yours. I've been following you for a minute, you know what I mean? Looking forward to seeing what you do in the future. If I can help in any way, let me know, bro.

ROGER STEELE: Yeah, I'mma think, you know? We're going to figure out something, dawg. You look like you paid over there.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Nah. I got these posters from Etsy, you feel me?
