The Nets are Champs? Where is the love for Zion? | Dunk Bait

LaJethro Jenkins and Seerat Sohi debate if the Brooklyn Nets are destined for greatness, and where is the respect and love for Zion Williamson.

Video Transcript

- Welcome to Dunk Bait where we talk mostly basketball. Today, we're talking about the Nets. It's chip time. You know, they're ahead of schedule, and it's time to start paying attention to Zion Williamson again, OK? The dude is incredible. I said earlier that I wasn't too scared of him a few weeks ago.

SEERAT SOHI: How are you feeling now?

- Everything's changed. All of it. All the things have changed. I-- insane. The way they did the Clippers the other night, the fact that they were missing KD-- and if we're being honest, he's the best player in the world --the best player in the world, I'm a Bron fan. I love it. I love Bron. What, what, what, what? Am I tripping?

- You know this is on the record, right?

- KD's the best player in the world right now. You know, they didn't miss a beat without him. The Clippers had three of the best guard defenders on their team in the league, and they couldn't do [BLEEP] with them, and it's incredible to me to watch.

- Having Harden and Kyrie alone work off of each other and actually really start to develop some chemistry, is terrifying, and you're a couple teams in the NBA that should be almost lab-designed in order to beat the Nets. I think the Sixers are one of them was Embiid and then just having Simmons to defend, and the Clippers should be one of them, too, especially with no Harden. So the fact that they had their two locked down wing defenders on Harden and Kyrie-- not that they spent the whole game on them, but they had those options --and it still didn't mean anything, how the hell are you going to handle it when Kevin Durant is back? And I think that's the question that the entire league is asking right now.

- I mean, how good is Harden? Like, maybe the best point producer we've ever seen in league history?

- He's always thinking one step ahead of the opposition. Now he has-- he has more options to play with than ever before. Like, I'll rattle off some stats right now just to show you how destructive the Nets are. They have 8 players shooting over 39% from the field. DeAndre Jordan is shooting 80% from the field, 80% at the rim.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: What?

SEERAT SOHI: Yeah, 80. The only shot he ever gets or has to take is a lob, you know? And Harden's starting to find him more often. He's starting to figure out where he likes the ball. He's not turni-- he was turning it over a lot when he used to try to find him. They're both kind of, like, that telepathic communication is starting to happen. Joe Harris is shooting 50% from 3. He's passing. Nobody passes.

- Dude, we might see 3 people be 50, 40, 90 guys on 1 team.

- That's never happened before, and it could.

- It's scary. A lot of the attention went to LaMelo. LaMelo is a great player. Probably the Rookie of the Year. It's been a joy to watch him. He's so comfortable whatever, you know, situation in basketball. I love LaMelo, but Zion is still Zion. He's having a great season. You know, he's shooting 60% from the field, and it's starting to equate to winning for the Pelicans. You know, it is time to start looking at Zion again.

- In early January, the Pelicans realized, oh, wait, we have Zion Williamson on our team, maybe we should give him the ball a little bit more.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Maybe?

- Yeah, maybe. Right? He's such a great playmaker. I think that's one of the things that a lot of people loved about him coming out of college, and even in high school, right? Like, you know, I talked to a couple of his old high school coaches before, and all they ever say is, like, this guy is the most willing, smart passer that they've ever coached. And we're starting to now see that with the Pelicans. His assists are way up. He's handling the ball and picking roll, and he is absolutely destructive there. Like, what we're watching right now, this is why the entire world had its eyes on Zion, like, just a few years ago. And it's time to-- it's time to bring him back. We have no idea what this guy's going to turn into. We have to remember this is one of the most unique NBA prospects ever. He's like a point center. He's-- what-- positions already don't exist.

- What is that?

- Exactly.

- What is that?

- Positions already don't exist. Like, he's going to push that to a whole new level because there's going to be so many places that as he figures out his game and as he extends his range, he's starting to take a few more 3 pointers. He's not shooting a lot, and now, not only are the Pelicans winning, they are one step closer to cracking the puzzle of just how good this guy can be.

- We saw the difference that Zion makes. He had a bad first half against the Celtics, turned it on in the second half, totally different team. You know what I mean? When Zion's playing good, when they're feeding Zion, the Pelicans are good. You know what I mean? And they're getting closer to playoff picture. They had a-- they started off bad, but they're figuring it out, and it's going to be fun to watch. I'm-- I'm going to be tapped in it for sure. All right, that's the show. I'm LaJethro Jenkins.

- I'm Seerat Sohi.

- Ya'll be cool, man. Tap into Zion. He's a dog, man.
