LIZ LOZA: Happy Monday, America. I hope you enjoy the jam packed weekend of Olympic madness as much as we did. And the madness didn't stop while you were asleep either as Team USA pushed to the top of the gold medal standings. Let's take a look at what you might have missed.

First up, let's start in the pool. With the highly anticipated battle in the 400-meter freestyle between reigning Olympic champion American Katie Ledecky, and reigning world champion Australian Oriented Miss. Ledecky led the extremely tight race until the final turn when Titmus pulled ahead. And girl, she never looked back securing her first Olympic gold.

While Ledecky cruised in for the silver. It's worth noting that Ledecky still holds the world record in the event, which she set in Rio during the 2016 games. Still plenty more to come from the woman they call the goat.

Next up, the men's 4 by 1,500 meter freestyle relay. This is a race Team USA has not lost since the 2004 Olympic games. But it's the first without Michael Phelps tipping it.

In this case, no Phelps, no problem. As Caleb Dressel, Blake Barone, Bowen Becker, and Zach Apple led the race from start to finish bringing home a fourth straight gold.

To the softball team when we go for a battle of the Beeton's. USA and Japan both teams entered this match for now. And we're likely to advance to the gold medal match regardless of the result. But that doesn't mean the game wasn't without drama.

Team Japan went up 1-0 in the first inning. And that score held all the way until the sixth inning. When Valerie triodos RBI single tied the game up then in the bottom of the seventh.

With the game still knotted at 1, Halsey Stewart called the game with a walk off home run to keep Team USA undefeated. The league will try to stay Sterling tomorrow in a rematch with Japan in the gold medal game. It's also a rematch of the 2008 gold medal match. The last time softball was an Olympic sport. Japan won that game 3-1 to take home the gold.

Speaking of gold medals, Team USA grabbed two more on Monday morning on the shooting range. Amber English and Vincent Hancock let America sweep of the men's and women's skeet shooting events and also notched yourself an Olympic record with 56 in the final.

Our whirlwind tour of the Tokyo games continues on the rugby pitch, where Team USA took on Kenya and Ireland in their first two matches on Monday. In the first match, Team USA took a 12-7 lead in the halftime. But Kenya came out firing in the second half to take a 14-12 lead.

Captain Madison Hughes was not to be denied, however, as he scored the go ahead try to give Team USA the 19 to 14 win.

Just seven hours later, the guys were back on the pitch to take on Team Ireland. And once again, it was Madison who's leading the way with two tries in a conversion as the Americans top the Irish 19 to 17 moving to 2 and 0 in their 2021 Olympic campaign.

I hope they rest up because tomorrow, Team USA takes on South Africa, the reigning world champs. So yeah, it's been busy. But good.

As the US is tied with Japan at the top of the gold medal rankings, only China has more total medals with 17 to team USA's 14. Make sure you keep it locked on Yahoo Sports for all your Olympic coverage, and check back in with me tomorrow morning for the best stuff you might have missed.
