The last pole-sitter to win the Daytona 500 was Dale Jarrett in 2000.
There is a giant paint can beyond the left-center-field wall at Angel Stadium that reads, “Angels home run in the can $1,000,000.” On Tuesday, Angels outfielder Justin Upton did just that. He hit a towering solo homer into the can, but Sherwin Williams won’t be paying $1 million. According to ESPN, Sherwin Williams will not be donating the $1 million to the Angels Baseball Foundation because Upton’s 444-foot homer did not land in the can on the fly. It bounced, and apparently this technicality is a thing. The team confirmed as much to ESPN. Sherwin Williams can do what it wants with its money, and $1 million is a ton of money. But the sign did say, “Angels home run in the can.” Upton hit a home
Fantasy owners: Let’s make a deal. As I pointed out on Tuesday, beyond the 10 to 12 solid running back situations in fantasy football, there’s a ton of uncertainty and frustration. I’ve spent a lot of the past couple of weeks trying to figure out how to improve at that RB2 position beyond picking anyone and everyone off waivers, especially with bye weeks looming. I think I’ve got one solution here. His name is Doug Martin. Martin is currently serving the final two games of a four-contest suspension, meaning he’ll be back in time for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday game against the New England Patriots. The point here is that Martin is currently stashed away on someone’s bench, and he was probably
With training camp starting next week, our resident basketball analysts will discuss some of the hottest topics involving the Sixers. Running the Give and Go are CSNPhilly.com Sixers Insider Jessica Camerato and producer/reporters Matt Haughton and Paul Hudrick. In this edition, we discuss who should be the Sixers' sixth man going into the 2017-18 season. Camerato This role has become a hot topic since the Sixers finally have the pieces to put together a consistent starting five and establish a go-to sixth man. This summer I wrote an article on the starting lineup in which I projected Robert Covington to start and Dario Saric to come off the bench as the sixth man. The Sixers need Covington’s
Midwestern State football player Robert Grays died Tuesday after he was hospitalized for a neck injury sustained during the team’s game Saturday. Grays was injured making a tackle late in the fourth quarter of the team’s 35-13 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Robert Grays died yesterday from critical injuries suffered in Saturday’s game,” MSU president Suzanne Shipley said in a statement.
Expanding the team's toxicity-fighting toolset to include softer methods is just as important as introducing harsher punishments, especially if players are just having an uncharacteristically bad day. Developer and face of the game's team Jeff Kaplan uploaded a video last week urging the player community to behave better, pointing out that dealing with reported users took up time and delayed upcoming features.
Five football players from Wheaton College -- a Christian school in Illinois -- are facing felony charges for allegedly assaulting another student last year. The alleged incident happened in March 2016 in Wheaton, about 25 miles west of Chicago, during which the alleged victim claims he was taken forcefully out of his dorm room, restrained against his will and left at a baseball field, Wheaton Police Chief Jim Volpe said Tuesday. According to an investigation report obtained by ABC News, the alleged victim told school investigators that he was in a dorm when several people burst in, held him down, "violently" pulled his arms behind him and wrapped duct tape around his ankles and wrists.
Artemi Panarin faced his old team, the Chicago Blackhawks, on Tuesday. It was only preseason and Panarin didn’t register a point in just over 22 minutes of ice time, and 8:17 on the power play. Panarin was loose and comfortable, occasionally chatting in English and frequently devolving into giggle fits with teammates Vitaly Abramov and Matiss Kivlenieks, who tried in vain to interpret for him.
Pat Neshek (L) aired his beef with Zack Greinke on an online collecting forum. Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Pat Neshek is MLB’s most avid baseball card and autograph collector. Neshek collects a lot more than 1985 Topps, though, so when he was chosen for the All-Star Game this year in Miami, Neshek was asked which player’s autograph he was most eager to try to get.
Russell Westbrook and the Thunder are clapping back at Kevin Durant. By now, you’ve surely heard how Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant took to Twitter over the weekend to chide the Oklahoma City Thunder from top to bottom, save for Russell Westbrook. “He didn’t like the organization or playing for Billy Donovan,” Durant wrote in the third person.
LOS ANGELES RAMS (1-1) AT SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (0-2) KICKOFF: Thursday, 8:25 p.m. ET, Levi's Stadium. TV: NFL Network, Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, Heather Cox (field reporter). SERIES HISTORY: 135th regular-season meeting. 49ers lead series, 67-64-3. This game marks an intriguing, new chapter in a long NFC West rivalry. It is a generational family affair. John McVay, grandfather of new Rams coach Sean, was VP of the 49ers in the 1990s when Mike Shanahan, father of new 49ers head coach Kyle, was offensive coordinator in S.F. Earlier this year, Kyle interviewed three times for the Rams job, but bad weather canceled a fourth meeting. So, Sean took the job in L A. and Kyle in S.F. It's almost
Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase on Wednesday left the door ajar for Lawrence Timmons to return to the Dolphins but otherwise wanted nothing to do with anything relating to the topic of the linebacker who went AWOL from the team over the weekend. Gase and Timmons have spoken about the incident and the team suspended him indefinitely without pay on Tuesday. Gase said Timmons will not practice this week (obviously) and will not play against the New York Jets (obviously). Other than that, Gase deflected questions about Timmons. Asked why Timmons went AWOL Gase said, “Everything dealing with that we’re going to keep in house and handle it the way we feel we need to handle it. And, really, I don’t have
It’s not really possible for Steve Sarkisian to hide his history. Sarkisian, now the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons, spoke to The MMQB’s Jonathan Jones during training camp for a story that was published online on Wednesday. Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian says it would be “so fulfilling” to help another individual struggling with alcoholism.
When FIFA 17 came out last year, its standout feature was something called "The Journey." For the first time in the franchise's 24-year history, EA Sports added a story mode where you can pretend to live the life of a professional soccer (er, football) player. The plot centered around a fictional character named Alex Hunter, a British teenager who's trying to make a name for himself in the English Premier League.

The Tigers have been terrible and the embarked on a rebuild this summer, shipping off Justin Verlander and multiple other players. It is, without a doubt, that the Tigers and their fans are about to begin a new chapter in the franchise’s history. Fourth-year manager Brad Ausmus is still at the helm and the Tigers have made no public statement about his future.

For Anton Forsberg, the challenges were going to come early. It wasn’t just getting the start for the Blackhawks’ first preseason game, it was getting tested early and often in that game on Tuesday night. A small sample size, but Forsberg had a strong preseason debut. And if he can continue off that start, he’ll be the latest in a successful run of backup goaltenders here. With a young Blackhawks group in front of him, Forsberg was a steady presence in net. He stopped 38 of 40 shots in the Blackhawks’ 5-2 victory; that included 14 shots in the first period, when penalties added up and the Blackhawks were on the short end of a 5-on-3 for 54 seconds. “It’s always nice to get a couple of shots.
It is hard to believe an NBA superstar who rose up over LeBron James and drained a dagger 3-pointer in Game 3 of the Finals is so easily distressed by Twitter trolls, but Kevin Durant is one and the same. In the interview, Durant and his consigliere Rich Kleiman described a conversation they shared during a 2016 Nike tour of China just after his free-agent decision. Durant: “To have so many people just say, ‘F*** you,’ that really does it to you.
Do whatever it takes to get Derrick Henry on your fantasy rosters and in your week 3 lineups and end up the right side of the NFL’s next generational running back talent. Henry has been a polarizing running back prospect going back to his time at Alabama. In college, Henry was labeled “stiff” and “upright.” Armchair scouts across the sports media landscape claimed Henry’s game, like Trent Richardson before him, would not translate well to the professional level, unless an NFL team designed system specifically to limit his flaws.
The war of words between Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold rages on. On Wednesday night, Rockhold claimed that Bisping’s championship reign was “the worst in UFC history” while mocking the fact that the 38-year old Brit faced Dan Henderson in his only title defense before booking a fight against Georges St-Pierre in November, who has never competed in the middleweight division previously. Well it didn’t take long for Bisping to respond while he reminded Rockhold how he became middleweight champion when they met at UFC 199 last June. “It’s a good job that he looks good cause he obviously can’t add up because 15 months — I fought less than a year ago, he hasn’t fought since I knocked him out in
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Sammy Watkins believes the Earth is flat. (AP) Arguing Earth is not round seems like a weird battle to fight in 2017, but a few people have bought in. Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving (still strange to say that “Boston
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford says the injury he sustained to his left knee during Week 1 was not the result of contact. "I felt it when it happened," Bradford said. "I honestly didn't think it was that big of a deal, and then the longer the game went on, it started to feel just a little bit worse and a little worse. Woke up Tuesday, and it just didn't feel very good." Bradford said he has a clear indication of what the injury diagnosis is, but he would not elaborate on the severity. Bradford was limited in practice last week and was made inactive during Minnesota's 26-9 loss at Pittsburgh after going through a light pregame workout where he was trying to determine
The Miami Dolphins have made a decision regarding linebacker Lawrence Timmons. The Dolphins have announced that Timmons has been suspended indefinitely. As a practical matter, the Dolphins definitely can suspend Timmons for up to four weeks without pay.
Kahne will drive the No. 95 Chevrolet for the one-car team after six seasons driving the No. 5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. Kahne said the deal came together over the weekend after the two parties began having conversations in mid-August. It’s his time with Red Bull Racing, which lasted 41 starts from 2010-11, that inspires some of his confidence in Leavine Family Racing.
