Video: Ex-NBA’er Sonny Weems with the best dunk contest performance in years

Sonny Weems enjoyed a brief NBA career after the former high school high-jumper was passed over in the 2008 NBA draft. As a member of the Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors, he earned the rare distinction of actually aiding teammates J.R. Smith (in 2009) and DeMar DeRozan (in 2010) during their dunk contest showings at All-Star weekend. With the NBA stuck in lockout mode last summer, Weems signed a deal with BC Žalgiris, a team based out of Lithuania that currently dons sportswear from Lithuanian Hall of Famer Arvydas Sabonis' personal line.

And, in a Lithuanian league dunk contest over the weekend, Sonny Weems showed why it should have been Smith and DeRozan assisting him those two years. Because these throwdowns probably would have won in both years, to say nothing of the mess we saw in Orlando last week. Take a look:

For winning the Most Impressive Player award during the weekend, and we're not joking, Sonny Weems won a refrigerator. Exactly what an American expatriate working in a foreign country and likely renting an apartment already furnished with a refrigerator needs.
