Atlanta Hawks forward and non-All-Star Josh Smith is quite the up and down player. The idea of consistency working as up and down doesn't really make sense, because you can be consistently inconsistent, but his effort levels and all-around basketball-themed smarts often go up and down. He can board, but usually not following a block out. He can defend, but often after he's been beaten badly and has to chase down a block. He can score, but his shooting aptitude from some of his favorite spots on the perimeter is pitiful.
