It may be time for Toronto Raptors reserve Malcolm Miller to head into his local auto shop for a little tune-up. In the first quarter of the Raptors’ away game against the Indiana Pacers, Victor Oladipo jerked to a stop while Miller, a recent G-League call-up left skid marks on the track.
About four minutes after tip-off, Indiana inbounded the ball to Oladipo following a made basket, who immediately went on the attack and sprinted up the floor. Miller picked Oladipo up around halfcourt, but didn’t seem prepared for Oladipo to stop on a dime behind the arc.
Instead of trying to recover, which is how defenders put their ankles in peril, Miller’s momentum sent him careening into the paint. While Oladipo squared up, an off-balance Miller slid a good 15 feet before regaining his balance. In fact, Miller found himself so far out of the play, Oladipo’s triple landed in Miller’s arms as it splashed through the net.
