Venter keen to build on Edinburgh's strong first half of URC season

Loosehead prop Boan Venter wants to carry Edinburgh's momentum into the next block of games as they come back from almost four weeks off to face Zebre at home.

Edinburgh sit sixth in the URC, having won six of their nine games so far.

"If you just look at the log, we're going really well," Venter said. "It'd be nice if we can, after the rest block, continue that momentum and get a couple of good performances in.

"Especially these two games now, playing in Italy and then having Ospreys at home, I think that can give us some good momentum leading into those block of games we have in South Africa."

Venter is one of a few who holidayed before returning to the Hive Stadium, while many of his teammates stuck around for Scotland Six Nations' duty.

"It is difficult, there's a fair few of our boys away, but at the same time it's quite exciting to see some of the young blokes coming through, getting some game time and strutting their stuff. It's kind of a bittersweet."

The 26-year-old has only started two games this season and hasn't started in the number one shirt since October. However, with Pierre Schoeman presumably rested, he may have a chance to begin against Zebre.

"My main focus is on bettering myself every weekend and building on all my previous performances. Whether that be in the set piece, my ball carries or on defence, I'm just eager to give my all to the team and hopefully help build on that momentum and get us on the front foot."
