Since quarantine first began, I realized I had more clothes for attending events than I did for staying home. But as of late, my homestay apparel hasn’t stood a chance against the Universal Standard Next-to-Naked Bodysuit. Why? Because this plus-size-approved unitard truly makes you feel naked.
Personally, cute athleisure has been the go-to for me. Wearing athleisure in quarantine reminds me that I have the freedom to either workout and look good or not workout at all and still look good and feel comfy. But the Universal Standard Next-to-Naked Bodysuit is like luxury athleisure for the summer.
Unsurprisingly, comfortable plus size unitards can sometimes be a diamond in the rough. To be honest, the only other one I own isn’t for working out and it’s not made out of the most comfortable fabric.
The Universal Standard Next-to-Naked Bodysuit, however, is light, airy and feels like a second skin. Made from sweat-wicking, antimicrobial fabric developed by the size-inclusive brand, the bodysuit is water absorbant — and great for backyard yoga in my humble opinion.

Another neat part of this superhero-like suit is the “not” built-in bra. The contoured stitching underneath the bust gives you some super comfortable bust support, but there’s absolutely no padding. Also, the bodysuit comes in black (shown above), navy and ivy.

The bodysuit has a plethora of five-star reviews and many say it’s also super comfortable to wear. One customer said this bodysuit “feels better than skin.”
“I just love this garment! So much that I need to order another,” they wrote. “Not only does it fit true to size and is wonderfully made, [but] I can actually see myself fussing with it to turn it into much more than a workout ensemble.”
If you’re wondering if there’s a shorter version of the bodysuit, there is — the Next-to-Naked Bodyshort. It’s $7 cheaper, and you can wear it as an undergarment for long dresses. However, for now, the boyshorts version only comes in black.

Though the bodysuit is just under $100, there are some other budget-friendly alternatives. Girlfriend Collective, a sustainable activewear brand offers The Unitard, which is described as if “your favorite cami and coziest leggings had a baby,” per the website. Even Skims carries the $68 Sculpting Bodysuit, in which the brand recommends sizing up for a more comfortable fit.
But, if you do decide on the Next-to-Naked bodysuit, you’ll be glad you splurged on a second skin for the summer.
