Harold Varner III remains in search of his first PGA Tour win, but many bettors are expecting him to land it this week at the inaugural Palmetto Championship.
Varner was a runner-up earlier this year across the state at the RBC Heritage, and he finished T-49 in South Carolina at last month's PGA Championship. He's listed at +3300 at PointsBet Sportsbook to notch his maiden victory this week at Congaree, the four-year-old venue that is hosting a Tour event for the first time after replacing the canceled RBC Canadian Open.
Varner is the top liability this week for PointsBet, and he's also leading in tickets heading into Thursday's opening round. The top liabilities have a distinctive Carolina vibe, with bettors leaning on players who are familiar with life in the Low Country heading into a tournament on an unfamiliar venue:
Top Palmetto Championship Liabilities (via PointsBet)
Harold Varner III (+3300)
J.T. Poston (+8000)
Luke List (+6000)
William McGirt (+10000)
Lucas Glover (+4000)

McGirt and Glover both hail from the Palmetto state, while List currently holds the course record at Congaree. Others joining Varner among the top ticket list are three of the four players with the lowest pre-tournament odds, including +800 co-favorites Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson:
Top Palmetto Championship picks (by PointsBet ticket count)
Harold Varner III (3.93%)
Brooks Koepka (3.45%)
Dustin Johnson (2.97%)
Tyrrell Hatton (2.69%)
Keith Mitchell (2.34%)
Koepka and Johnson lead the way in terms of betting handle, thanks in part to their low pre-tournament odds. But Varner isn't far behind, with none of the top picks eclipsing 4 percent of the total handle for the week:
Top Palmetto Championship picks (by PointsBet handle)
Brooks Koepka (3.91%)
Dustin Johnson (3.38%)
Harold Varner III (3.25%)
Lucas Glover (2.92%)
Keith Mitchell (2.55%)
