USMNT's won't play October matches due to COVID-19 concerns

U.S. Soccer announced that the U.S. men's national team's October friendly matches won't be happening due to COVID-19 concerns.

No opponents had been announced for the friendlies, which were to take place during the international window from Oct. 3-15.

USMNT general manager Brian McBride said in a statement that the ongoing pandemic made it too difficult for the federation to host U.S. players and international opponents. The national team will attempt to resume action in November.

The wait to see Chelsea star Christian Pulisic in a USMNT jersey will go on longer as the team's October fixtures were called off.

Originally, the September window was meant to be the start of CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but the federation announced Sept. 8. that qualifiers were delayed until the March window.

The U.S. was targeting camps in Colorado for friendly matches to be played, and may try to hold its annual winter/January camp if things improve.

The U.S. hasn't played since Feb. 1, a 1-0 friendly win over Costa Rica.
