USC receiver Gary Bryant Jr. enters transfer portal

USC wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. entered the transfer portal. It’s a decision he frankly needed to make.

One can question plenty of transfer portal decisions, but this isn’t one of them. It is readily apparent to anyone and everyone who watched USC in 2022 that the Trojans were absolutely loaded at the wide receiver spot. This was the deepest and best position group on the roster, not counting quarterback, where Caleb Williams is a one-man show. USC wasn’t deep at quarterback. Wide receiver gave USC the marriage of quality and depth which was hard to find at all other position groups.

When Jordan Addison and Mario Williams got hurt this past season, it wasn’t a problem. Tahj Washington stepped up. So did Kyle Ford. So did Michael Jackson. Brenden Rice had a spectacular Cotton Bowl against Tulane. Now we have Dorian Singer of Arizona coming to USC via the transfer portal to essentially take over Addison’s role as WR1.

With so many quality receivers in the room, Bryant did the simple math and correctly realized he needed to go elsewhere to get significant playing time in pursuit of an NFL opportunity. It’s the right decision for him. We wish Gary the best at his next stop and beyond.
