USC Aiken women's basketball falls on road at Augusta

AUGUSTA — The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 75-51 decision at Augusta Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 4-10 overall, including 0-4 in league play. The Jaguars stand at 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the PBC.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Marta Rivera and Jentri Worley as each accounted for 12 points. Annalise Malone notched 10 points while Hailey Unger contributed eight markers. Sami Bardonaro added eight points and a game-best three assists while Alivia Hikel and Jaya Nelson chipped in two points and one point, respectively.

On the glass, Malone and Rivera tied for team-best accolades with seven rebounds each. Hikel, Unger and Worley all had steals.

Trailing 44-19 at the break, Miller's team outscored AU in the third quarter 19-14. Down 51-21, Unger got things going with a jumper. Moments later, Worley weaved through the defense for a lay-up. Bardonaro's three-ball trimmed the deficit to 23 at the 6:25 mark. With the score at 53-28, Worley nailed a jumper. The Jaguars pushed the margin back to 24 with 1:57 to play in the quarter but Rivera netted the final four points of the frame to make it 58-38 heading into the final stanza. Both of Rivera's field goals were assisted by Unger.

Miller's team trailed 60-38 before Malone hit a pair of free throws. With 7:17 to go, Worley buried two charity tosses to make it an 18-point contest, but the Pacers could get no closer the rest of the way.

For the game, USC Aiken dished out 10 assists on 17 field goals. The squad registered 10 points off eight Augusta turnovers.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Georgia Southwestern at 5:30 p.m.
