USC Aiken softball's Dixon earns Peach Belt honor

Feb. 6—USC Aiken's Austyn Dixon started her college softball career with a bang this past week.

Dixon, a freshman catcher from Kings Mountain, N.C., has been named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office.

Dixon guided the Pacers to a 2-2 record in the season's opening weekend.

The rookie posted a pair of hits in the nightcap at Francis Marion, including a double. She registered three RBI in the contest.

In the home opener against Newberry, she crushed the first pitch she saw over the right center field fence for a round-tripper. Dixon also singled in the game.

Against the Wolves in the second game, Dixon pounded out another hit and drew a walk.

For the week, she had a pair of multi-hit games. Of her five hits, two went for extra bases. Additionally, she had four RBI while batting .357.

Behind the plate she had 28 putouts and threw out a runner.

Up next for Dixon and the Pacers is a pair home doubleheaders this weekend. They host North Greenville at 1/3 p.m. Saturday and then Limestone at 1/3 p.m. Sunday.
