USA captain Megan Rapinoe is hoping to turn their World Cup quarter-final against France in Paris into a “crazy spectacle” as they look to ruin the tournament for the host nation.

The highly-anticipated clash pitches the world’s best team against the highly-talented hosts, ranked fourth in the world.

Although the US were hugely impressive in their group games, they were made to work extremely hard to beat Spain in the round of 16 and suddenly they do not look unbeatable.

That will fuel the hopes of all the other nations who have progressed into the last eight – including England - and the game against France is a mouth-watering tussle which many would have preferred to have been the final in Lyon next month.

The US team are convinced it is their destiny to win their fourth World Cup and Rapinoe cannot wait to be involved in arguably the biggest women’s game ever outside of a final in terms of interest and excitement.

“Hopefully it will be a complete spectacle,” said Rapinoe. “Just an absolute media circus, I hope it's huge and crazy, that's what it should be.

“This is the best game, it's what everybody wanted, we want it, they're up for it, all the fans are up for it.

“Maybe there'll be a pretty even split in the stadium, we've been travelling pretty deep in this World Cup. I hope it's just a total s---show circus, it's going to be awesome. These are the biggest games you dream about as a kid.”
