Updated Chiefs 2023 draft picks following Kadarius Toney trade

The Kansas City Chiefs made their big move ahead of the NFL trade deadline, acquiring WR Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants for a pair of 2023 NFL draft picks. The Giants receive the team’s compensatory third-round pick from Ryan Poles becoming the GM of the Chicago Bears. They also received a sixth-rounder, but it’s unclear which of the two they’ll receive.

Even with the trade, the Chiefs are currently projected to have 11 picks in 2023. In addition to the eight picks they already own, the team is projected to receive three compensatory picks in the seventh round according to Over The Cap.

  • Round 1, Pick ??

  • Round 2, Pick ??

  • Round 3, Pick ??

  • Round 4, Pick ??

  • Round 4, Pick ?? (Via MIA for Tyreek Hill)

  • Round 5, Pick ??

  • Round 6, Pick ?? (KC or MIA, whichever wasn’t traded to NYG)

  • Round 7, Pick ??

  • Round 7, Pick ?? (Comp pick for Byron Pringle)

  • Round 7, Pick ?? (Comp pick for Jarran Reed)

  • Round 7, Pick ?? (Comp pick for Mike Hughes)

The Chiefs could also add more draft picks before April. For instance, if Eric Bieniemy were to finally get a head-coaching job after the 2022 NFL season, the Chiefs would get an additional third-round comp pick in the 2023 NFL draft and the 2024 NFL draft. There is also the potential for more trades ahead of the upcoming deadline or after the season ahead of the 2023 free agency period.

But the bottom line here is that Kansas City is still in good shape to acquire some talent in the upcoming draft. They’re unlikely to use all 11 draft picks, which begs the question: Could another trade be coming ahead of Tuesday’s deadline?
