How 'Uncomfortable Conversations' came to be

Emmanuel Acho on how the killing of George Floyd led to a search in him that led to his series "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man".

Video Transcript

EMMANUEL ACHO: The end of May, George Floyd tragically is murdered. And so as a Black man, then I was like, I have to do something. The world sees me, I'm a sports analyst, but I'm a Black man and I'm a human being. It is my responsibility to contribute to the world in some capacity.

I called my best friend-- Olympic gold medalist, her name is Mo-- and I said, hey, stand in as my producer. True story. I call a wedding videographer, Dan, and I say, hey, I have this idea. Can you come shoot this thing for me? I go to some all-white room, and I sit down in a chair, and I record the first episode of uncomfortable conversations with the Black man.

I didn't do it to become famous. I didn't do it to get notoriety. I didn't do it to get, now, over 65 million views in four months. I did it out of a desire to help change the world. And I think that's one thing people have to know, is there's your career, and there is your calling. Your career, what you're paid for. Your calling, what you're made for.
