Most of the UNC football news ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft has revolved around quarterback Sam Howell, but there are other notable second and third day draft picks that could make a name for themselves.

One such player is former UNC running back Ty Chandler. The Second-Team All-ACC performer last year is projected to hear his name called on Day Three but could be a steal.

ESPN.com’s NFL draft scouting expect Matt Miller says Chandler ‘is my day 3 favorite at the position…’. He goes on to say that Chandler could be a breakout candidate.

Chandler came to North Carolina from Tennessee where he split time with a committee for most of his career. At UNC, he ran for 1,092 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 216 yards and one receiving touchdown.

He averaged 6.0 yards per carry on 182 carries for the season. His best performance was a 22-carry for 213 yards and four touchdown game against No. 9 Wake Forest. He had three 100+ yard games. He also had four multi-touchdown games.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Chandler looks to follow in the footsteps of Javonte Williams and Michael Carterwho both were drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft and went on to have extremely productive rookie campaigns.

The NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 28.
