UNC Football vs. Georgia Tech: Staff predictions

The North Carolina Tar Heels look to extend their win streak as they host Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon. UNC enters this game as double-digit favorites and are hoping to improve on its College Football Playoff ranking with another win.

With two regular season games left, UNC is hoping to finish strong ahead of their showdown with Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game in a few weeks. But they can’t look ahead at the risk of an upset at the hands of the Yellow Jackets.

North Carolina lost to Georgia Tech last year in Atlanta in what was just a miserable game for UNC.  However, this one is at home and in front of another sell-out crowd. Plus, UNC is a much better team.

As we always do, let’s get into our staff picks for this Week 12 matchup.

Zack Pearson

Prediction: UNC 45, Georgia Tech 27

Season record: 8-2

The Tar Heels enter the game as 21-point favorites at home. This is a game UNC should win and it should be another big day for Heisman candidate Drake Maye.

Even with a defense that’s struggling, I think UNC runs away with this one early on and stays ahead, pulling out another win.

Richard Adkins

Prediction: UNC 41, Georgia Tech 32

Season record: 9-1

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the superior team heading into this matchup with Georgia Tech. However, the expected blowout outcome should be in question as this game has a trap written all over it. UNC
is enjoying a six-game win streak, and Georgia Tech is coming off a 35-14 home loss against Miami. Despite the differences in momentum, the Yellow Jackets are rolling out a new quarterback this weekend, and
that unknown factor has haunted North Carolina in games like this. Against Florida A&M, a key reason for the struggles is the lack of tape available. North Carolina will need to figure out Georgia Tech early and keep the pressure on.

Alec Lasley

Prediction: UNC 38, Georgia Tech 23

Season record: 9-1

How will UNC respond today after clinching the ACC Coastal last week? Georgia Tech has some question marks at quarterback, starting a new QB today, and will be a variable that the Tar Heels will have to figure out early. North Carolina is clearly the superior team but need to make sure it is ready mentally for this one. Will there be any letdown? In other years, maybe. But I think Mack Brown has this team ready to go. Tar Heels should continue their winning ways.
